[ the entity always loves ruining a good time.

zarina's taken away from the place she calls home only to be brought into a trial once again, clothes changing into the blue and gold ensemble fit for a queen. already she hears the electric sparks in the air as she finds herself accompanied by ash, adam, and kate in the constantly raining forest.

the result: two dead, two escape; zarina lets out heavy breaths with her hands on her knees, shaking her head as though it would remove the static in her hair. ]

I... really hate... [ inhale, exhale. ] ... the Doctor.

No kidding.

[Kate huffs, a laugh weakly escaping her lips as she runs her fingers through her hair, and then down her arms as she shivers. Not because she's cold, but because she still feels an energy built up inside her.

Kate almost considers reaching out to Zarina, seeing if she'd be able to zap her with a touch and discharge both of them, but she resists.

Only because there's a dark mark situated right on her neck, and Kate's smile becomes absolutely brilliant in a single moment.

She knew it.]

Lots of mosquitos out, eh?

[ what — ]

I — what? I don't remember mosquitos in the area? Well, I've seen the fireflies back in the estate but that's it.

[ zarina would figure it out in an instant if she wasn't occupied with shaking out the feeling of being shocked numerous times, followed by rolling her left shoulder and trying to take out the ache of sharp hooks piercing through flesh.

it doesn't add to the collection of scars on her body at least. ]

Did you find some?

More found evidence of some. Or at least a very, very big one.

[She smiles, innocent and sweet.] Might wanna consider wearin' that scarf of yours a little more often for a bit.

[ a pause, and then that slow moment of realization reveals on her face as her eyes widen up. a hand snaps towards the very spot on her neck, fingers pressing against her own skin as she remembers — they went overboard, they didn't care the fog wraps around as they kiss — exactly what happened.

another hand holds kate by the shoulder as she leans in, but she looks around first. too many people to talk about the fact that she's seeing someone in the first place. it's the reason why she jerks her head towards the woods. ]

Can we talk somewhere else about this?

[Kate laughs loud as Zarina panics, holds her by the shoulder and jerks her head to the woods, ushering her along. She doesn't put up a fight at all, puts her hands up placatingly. ]

It's alright, Zarina. I ain't gonna talk. Just givin' you a heads up before you got into camp proper.

[ the immediate relief that leaves her throat as a sigh, eyelids shut as she thinks how much of a fool she must be to have forgotten about it. on the other hand, it can't be helped when one's simply trying to live by the end of a trial while attempting to save others.

it's only natural to focus on the more immediate problem. now that they're out of a trial however... ]

Thank you. [ she says while rubbing her neck, lips forming into a small smile as she looks towards kate. ] I did have my scarf before the Entity called me in, but then it decided I should play dress up.

Ah, we've all been there. [A chuckle, and Kate shrugs helplessly.] Honestly though, I knew you had someone, call it a sort of intuition, but I for the life of me can't figure out who. No one at camp seems your type, and you ain't the type to talk. I respect that.

Really? What made you realize I was seeing someone before this?

The way you act. I seen it before.

[Just little things, but Kate knows them well.

The sneaking away more often than most to get supplies is one of those things. Maybe taking longer than necessary to do so.

And yet, it's still hard to keep track. Several of them go out at any given time, to any given area at a time, and others are still called into the trials, so it's hard to really get a feed on who it might be.]

[ well shit; zarina lets out a wordless ah that's accompanied by a nod. ]

Don't suppose anyone else is guessing the same one you made so far?

Unfortunately gossip is all we really got to entertain ourselves at the campfire. But no one knows who your secret lover is, and if they do or are, they aren't fessin' up.

They think Ace is a contender, for some reason, even though he's got the biggest hard-on for me an' Felix. Can't say I agree, though.

Not surprised with how he acts towards you two, though he did tell me he had a one-time lover back home. Ace has a big heart.

For the record, I'm going to say that it isn't him. [ a nod, a smile. ] And I'm not telling either. He prefers privacy.

[ which is zarina telling just a little, but not completely. never completely. ]

[Kate laughs at Zarina, specifically, the way she confirms it's not Ace.]

No, I didn't think so. But if he prefers privacy, it ain't my place to ask. It won't stop me from speculatin', however. Too much fun with too little to do at the campfire. I'm sure you understand.

[Kate reaches out, pats Zarina's back in a friendly manner.]

[ with that said, her smile gains a hint of amusement at kate's words as she leans her shoulder against her. of course she would still guess. ]

I won't confirm or deny, but I'm curious who you have as your guesses. Tell me?

Well... Bill is too old for you, Dwight's too much of a coward. Jake would probably die before enterin' a relationship, and Ash wouldn't shut up about bein' in one. Felix is too much of a pushover for your tastes, as nice as he is. Quentin is a big no, and Steve is taken.

Which leaves David, Tapp, Adam, and Jeff. Don't think it's Tapp, and like Ash, David wouldn't shut up about bein' in a relationship. An' yet, for some reason, I ain't convinced over it bein' Adam or Jeff.

[There's a subtle implication there. Kate's named all the survivors at the campfire.]

Well, Adam and Jeff are pretty cute.

[ because clearly she's dating one of the survivors, right? zarina doesn't miss that kate names everyone at the camp. she counts how many people her friend speaks of, making sure to see if there's anyone she missed. ]

If it were up to me I wouldn't be shy saying who it is. Not embarrassed the slightest.

Oh, they are cute, I'll give you that. [She nods, removes her arm from around Zarina's shoulder so she can instead hold it innocently behind her back.]

But I ain't convinced, even if Jeff gives the second best hugs at the campfire. Of which I don't think you're seein' anyone at the campfire.

[ "Of which I don't think you're seein' anyone at the campfire." is a phrase that has zarina's heart race. fortunately, however, she's gone through more stressful situations in her life that has her learn how to act in front of other people. therefore, zarina keeps the look of calmness on her face. ]

Don't think there's anyone else out there that are on my list. [ an outright lie as she shakes of her head. ] Or I should say hard to imagine. Who else is in the fog?

Thought you were tryin' to keep a secret. [Kate teases, but ultimately shrugs.]

Just 'cause they're not at our campfire doesn't mean they aren't out there. [A jerk of her head further deep into the woods. Where if one thought about it hard enough, they could go almost anywhere--

Except home.]

If you find anyone then let me know. I'd like to know how they've survived so far, or maybe they have another safe place to be? Maybe a second campfire?

[ a second campfire is not just a theory, but proven thanks to caleb telling her a while back. for as much as zarina would like to say that she's heard of people outside, that there must be other survivors out there... no need to reveal that to kate. it would lead to more questions. ]

And — I've actually never brought him up before to anyone, and no one's found out about him until you. [ lisa does, but kate doesn't need to know. ] It's nice to be able to finally talk to someone about him, haha.

There's a few survivors out there that we haven't seen in any trial. I know of some of 'em. Tryin' to track one down in particular, actually.

[He's also the one who Kate has the highest suspect of Zarina seeing.]

[ before she speaks — mouth open as though to say a word — lips close and form a smile once again. ]

Maybe someday I'll talk about him more, if he ever decides to be open about it. [ doubt of course. not with their situation. ] Who exactly are you looking for again, by the by?

Lookin' for one Benedict Baker. I'm sure you've met him before? [Or, at least, heard of him. It's not like he's a campfire secret, after all.]

[ a look of surprise on her face, eyebrows raised. ]

I've seen some of his notes. [ thanks to her investigations, fortunately. ] Why, did you find something of his?
